Mansfield police Officer Brittney Pennywitt and Richland County Deputy Eric Wendling were charged with assault on March 8, 2021, following an off-duty incident on February 28, 2021, at a residence in Mansfield. Both were off-duty at the time and remain on paid administrative leave pending an internal affairs review and the outcome of the pending criminal charge.
